Verbatim Studios' Conor Murphy Mixes MetLife Super Bowl Spots

Verbatim Studio senior mixer Conor Murphy completed the final surround sound audio mixes for MetLife's 2014 Super Bowl TV efforts, one of which was the final spot leading into the start of the big game. This year's Super Bowl was held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Original music & branding powerhouse Elias Arts brought the spot to Verbatim. Elias Arts, Executive Producer Kate Dohaney, Creative Director Greg Griffith and Production Coordinator Matt Phenix collaborated on the finished product. The spots, entitled "National Anthem," were created by Ari Merkin.

5.1 and stereo mixing for television broadcast is a highly regarded and technical field, and Verbatim Sound's Murphy has extensive experience in this area, through work on multiple seasons of Saturday Night Live where he handled post -production broadcast mixing.

"It was one of those spots that is a real pleasure to work on; creative, simple and heartwarming," says Murphy. "Simplicity of content often leads to more complexity in surround mixing, as it gives more creative freedom. It was a challenge that I really enjoyed, and a great creative team made the collaboration a real joy."

The "National Anthem" :15, :30 and :60 spots perfectly harnessed the familiarity of the beloved Peanuts cartoon characters with the nostalgia of the national anthem. The peaceful, yet powerful, piano performance created a beautiful juxtaposition to the physical nature of the game itself.

You can check out the spot here. Super Bowl commercials have become an integral and extremely popular part of the game's tradition. With over 100 million having tuned in to this year's game, spots are reaching more and more viewers.

Verbatim Studios, Billy Harper Record for Madden 2014

Verbatim Studio mixer Billy Harper began the in-game commentary recording for Madden 2014 this week in New York for gaming company EA Sports. In the studio was legendary QB and superbowl MVP, Phil Simms, who will soon be joined by his CBS partner, Jim Nance. Matt Bialosuknia, producer for Electronic Arts, oversaw the record.

Commentary recording for the gaming industry is a highly specialized audio field. And Harper and Verbatim mixer Conor Murphy bring over 10 years of experience to the project. Their other credits include EA’s NBA Live, NHL, Grandslam Tennis, Tiger Woods Golf as well as Marc Echo’s “Getting Up” and Rockstar Games.

"Recording for Madden is always exciting and something I really look forward too,” said mixer Billy Harper. "Plus, I get to hang out with an NFL legend, what more could I ask for?”

Madden, originally named John Madden Football was first released in 1988. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the series. The Madden game is the best seller for EA sports, with over 2.68 million copies of Madden 13 sold.

Verbatim’s Conor Murphy Revs up Mobil for BBDO

Verbatim Studios’ mixer Conor Murphy continued his audio work for BBDO client Mobil 1 and its radio effort. Murphy recently recorded and mixed spots for the petroleum giant featuring NASCAR champions Darrell Waltrip and Tony Stewart.

Serving as “the official motor oil for NASCAR”, Mobil employed two of NASCAR’s greats to bring life to the spot "In My Car". As Tony proclaims in the commercial he is “not perfect”, and he even thinks “the healthiest vegetable is steak” but when it comes to motor oil he doesn’t take any chances.

Producing for BBDO was Chris Cassar. The spot was creative directed by the agency’s Randy VanCleek.

Verbatim's Conor Murphy Mixes Political Short For SNL

“Undecided Voter” Clip Gains Steam

In the midst of one of the most heated Presidential campaign trails, famed late-night comedy show – Saturday Night Live – took the opportunity to make light of the Presidential race and poke fun at undecided voters.

Verbatim Studios’ own Conor Murphy – mixed the digital short. “Undecided Voter” humorously highlights the supposed ignorance of voters who refuse to choose either candidate. The clip becomes humorous when the undecided ask questions in regard to common knowledge during elections that occur every four years.

The Saturday Night Live short has made headlines due to the fact that undecided voters are often a critical deciding factor in the Presidential race. The first Presidential debate aired October 3, 2012 at 8:00PM, EST on all major networks and cable news channels. The next debate will hopefully sway these ambivalent undecided voters; the debate on foreign and domestic policy is set to air October 11, 2012 at 9:00PM, EST.

You can watch the "Undecided Voter" clip here.
